The Aug. 18 election is three elections in one
On the ballot will be:
1) Nonpartisan elections, including voting for judges and school board candidates.
2) Universal (open) primaries. When there are no candidates from an opposing party running, everyone can vote and the winner of he August election is elected. There are open primaries for Broward County Commission District 6 (the Hollywood area) and State House District 98 (parts of Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach and Oakland Park)
3) Partisan (closed) primaries, which determine who will be the party's candidate for the November election. Partisan races include US Senate, Congressional Districts, governor and others.
